General Description
Bromides are used to control epilepsy in your pet. It is often used in conjunction with Phenobarbital to reduce the severity and number of seizures.
It may take months before this drug achieves fewer seizures.
It is very easy to overdose your pet on this drug because the helpful dose is very close to the toxic dose. Pay close attention to the dosage requirements.
How It Works
A seizure is a sudden surge in neuron activity in the brain, causing a change in feeling or behavior. Bromides work by reducing neuron activity and excitability in your pet’s brain.

Store in a tightly sealed container at room temperature.
Missed Dose?
Missing a dose may cause your pet to have a seizure! Try very hard not to miss any doses!
Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give the pet two doses at once.
Side Effects and Drug Reactions
Bromides may result in these side effects:
- Dehydration
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Kidney disfunction
- Loss off appetite
- Increase in water intake
- Increase in urination
- Increase in appetite
- Tremors
- Constipation
- Rash
- Sedation
- Pancreatitis
- Jaundice
Bromides may react with these drugs:
- Phenobarbital (and other anticonvulsants)
- Diazepam (and other central nervous system depressants)
- Furosemide (and other diuretics)
USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN ADMINISTERING THIS DRUG TO CATS - Risk and severity of side effects increase when Bromides are given to cats. Do not use without the approval of your veterinarian and use exactly the amount your veterinarian recommends.
USE CAUTION WHEN ADMINISTERING THIS DRUG TO PREGNANT OR LACTATING PETS - The use of Bromides in pregnant or lactating pets has not been extensively studied.
